The Thermodynamics of Cocrystal Formation

Prof Chris Hunter, University of Sheffield, UK

Molecular recognition events in solution and the solid state are affected by many different factors that have hampered the development of a thermodynamic understanding of intermolecular interactions at the quantitative level. We have developed an integrated approach for estimating the relative magnitudes of non-covalent interactions in different solvent environments. This presentation will describe the application of these ideas to the solid state, and specifically to the problem of the prediction of the probability of cocrystal formation between two different substances.
